Obituary of Robert William "Bob" Neil
Age 76, Halifax, passed away at home on April 22, 2016. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Gray) Neil.
Bob graduated from St. Patrick’s High in Halifax and then moved to Toronto where he received his degree in purchasing from Ryerson University. Bob was first married in 1960 in Ontario, after his divorce in 1977, Bob returned to Halifax where he met his soul mate, Rose and where married in 1987. During the 70’s and 80’s, Bob was very active in sports. He was a master bowler (Teaching Div.), director in the Y.B.C. organization, coach in the Parkwood Hockey League, and for the past 30 years was a member of the Twin City Crib League where he served many times as President. Bob joined the Halifax Water Commission in 1978 as Assistant Purchasing Agent and retired in 2004 after 26 years as Purchasing and Inventory Control Officer. Bob was always active and after a couple of years of rest, he returned working for Shoppers Drug Mart on the Herring Cove Rd. from 2006 till he finally retired again in 2011.
Bob is survived by sons, Stephen (Dawn), Michael (Lori), Andrew, all of Ontario; daughter, Charlene (Dean), Halifax; 5 beautiful grandchildren; Christopher, Natalie Anne, Dylan, Cody and Ryan; brother-in–law, William Sullivan; niece, Margaret Slate (Kevin). He was predeceased by his loving wife of 32 years, Rose and a sister Clara.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Rd., where visitation will be held from 11a.m.-1p.m. on Friday May 20 followed by a celebration of life in the funeral home chapel at 1p.m., Rev. Gordon Relf officiating, reception to follow. Interment of both Bob and Rose will then take place in Pleasant Hill Cemetery Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
