Obituary of Ralph Ethelbert Nickerson
Age 101, Maplestone Enhanced Care, went home to be with the Lord, December 24, 2015 surrounded by family.
Born in East Pennant, February 1, 1914 to the late Henry Wilber and Grace Darling (Marryatt) Nickerson, he fished with his father as a young man and worked on sword fishing boats out of Sambro. Ralph was employed at the Halifax Shipyard as a Rigger from 1954 until his retirement in 1979 at which time he continued to enjoy inshore fishing, hunting, cutting firewood, harmonica playing, hymn sings and his favorite chair swing.
He is survived by children Ruth Weir, Linda Munroe, Herbert (Elaine) Nickerson, Ruby (Stephen) Sarty, Una Mae Roach; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 9 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Inez Hannah (Turner); siblings, Marjorie Reid, Myrtle Snow, Russell and son’s in-law John Weir and Ronald Munroe.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Rd. where visitation will be held Wednesday, December 30 from 1-2 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m., grandson, Captain Jacob Sarty officiating. Interment to take place in East Pennant Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideon Bible Society.
