Obituary of Loretta Slaunwhite (Vopni)
Slaunwhite, Loretta (Vopni): 75, Halifax, passed away on December 10, 2015 at the New Halifax Infirmary. Born in St. John’s NL, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Power) Murphy. Throughout many years, Loretta had been employed with the QEIIHospital, from where she retired. She moved to Halifax in 1968, where she made her life. She was an avid Maple Leafs fan and will be remembered for speaking her mind and having a warm heart and a kind smile. She was a mom to many and everyone loved her. She is survived by her children, Heather Vopni, Karl Vopni, Keith Slaunwhite, Kirk Slaunwhite and Kyle Slaunwhite, sister, Rose Aherns and brother, Jack Murphy, as well as 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl, a son, Erik Vopni, and many brothers and sisters.
Cremation has taken place under the care of JA walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where a service in memory of Loretta will take place on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 11 AM in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
