Obituary of Joanne Marie Burns

Burns, Joanne Marie (Clare)- Age 64, of Halifax, joined the angels in heaven on November 30, 2015. She is no longer sick and is in no pain. Joanne was born on March 23, 1951 in London Ontario and moved to Halifax at age 4. Joanne was a daughter of the late Bert and Ruth (McLeod) Clare. She graduated from the QEH and the Maritime Secretarial School. Joanne worked her whole business career in various positions at the Victoria General Hospital, mainly the cancer center in the Dixon building. She retired in  2004, but did continue to work casually until 2012. Joanne loved to cook and bake and the staff at the cancer center were often the recipients of her fudge and other sweets. Joanne is survived by her devoted and loving husband Rodney Burns; sons Tyler at home and Jeffery Hampden (Bonnie), Halifax; sisters Ruth Thomsen  and Shelley Clare, Halifax; brother Chris D. Clare, Halifax; many nieces, especially Leanne Haley who was like a daughter to her and who was by her side for the last few weeks, great nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters in law, her aunt Peggy Johnson in Stewiacke and friends Theresa Rose, Lillian Frances, and Brenda Chinn. Joanne was predeceased by her brother Brock Clare, brother in law Clement Andrew Thomsen and nephew Clement Michael Thomsen in infancy. Many thanks to the Cancer Center especially Dr. Alwin Jeyakumar and nurse Darlene, palliative care, V.O.N and continuing care for their great care. Cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) ltd, 149 Herring Cove Road, (902-477-5601). The family will receive friends on Friday, December 4 from 6-8pm. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 5 at 11am from the funeral home chapel. Reverend Catherine MacDonald officiating. Reception to follow. Burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Joanne to the Nova Scotia Cancer Center in care of the QEII foundation or call 902-473-7932.
