Obituary of William Alexander "Bill" "Sandy" Collier

Age 92, Halifax, passed away November 18, 2015 at the Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building QEII. Born in Rose Blanche, NL, he was a son of the late Samuel and Annie (Smith) Collier. He was known as Sandy. In his earlier years, Sandy was a fisherman on schooners out of Newfoundland. He served in the Merchant Navy during WWII. He then worked as a stationary engineer with DND, retiring after 31 years of service. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 152 and was a member of Emmanuel Anglican Church, Spryfield. In his younger years he loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed gardening, loved music, singing, dancing and telling stories of his many adventures at sea and abroad. After retiring, Sandy and his wife Margaret travelled, spending many winters in Florida. Also they spent a lot of their summers in Newfoundland, where he loved berry picking and visiting family and friends. Margaret was the love of his life. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra MacDonald (Doug), Sambro; sons, Donald (Deloris), Williamswood; Darrell, Halifax; grandchildren, David (Desaree); Brian (Shelly); Tracy (Robbie); Angela; Stephen (Charlene); 6 great grandchildren; brother, Gerald, Port Aux Basque, Nfld; sisters, Loretta Gillard (Leander), Sudbury, Ont.; Bessie Price, Centralia, Washington, U.S.A. He was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret (Marsden) Collier; brothers, Wesley, Ronald, Howard, John, Stanley, Wilson; sisters, Cassie, Joyce, Edna, Marjorie, Mabel, Florence, Annie, Maude and Clara. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Rd., where visitation will be Sunday, November 22 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held from Emmanuel Anglican Church 322 Herring Cove Rd. Monday November 23, at 1 p.m. Interment to take place in Emmanuel Anglican Cemetery. Special thanks to the nursing staff at 4east for their outstanding care and especially in his last days towards the end.
