Imelda Anne Gotell

Obituary of Imelda Anne Gotell

Age 87, Halifax, NS, died peacefully after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s on Thursday, November 12, 2015. Born into a large family in Moncton, N.B, she was the second youngest child of the late Clara and Mark Daly. She leaves behind many who loved her dearly. Her husband, Elwood cared for her tenderly until the end. Imelda was cherished by her son, Jim (Lisa), of Toronto and by her daughter, Lise, (Adien Dubbelboer) and grandson, Liam, of Edmonton. She is also survived by her sister, Pauline Keenan of Moncton, and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Nora (Butler), Elizabeth, Mary (Breau), Helen, John, Thomas, Owen and Mark. Before her children were born, Imelda worked as an administrator at the CBC and at CN Rail. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed spending time with her family at her home in Halifax, N.S., and her summer home in Stanhope, P.E.I. For many years, Imelda volunteered at the Nova Scotia Cancer Center. She loved to read, and was rarely seen without a book in her hand, which made her illness all the more cruel. Imelda was cared for at home until her needs grew to be too much for her husband. She spent her final months in the excellent care of the Geriatric and Progressive Care team at Abbie Lane Wing, Halifax Infirmary. Her family is very grateful for the kindness shown to her by medical staff there, as well as for the many years of care provided by Dr. Peter Brennan and Dr. Chris MacKnight. It was Imelda’s wish to be cremated with no service. She will be buried in St. Eugene’s Cemetery, Covehead, P.E.I.. Donations in memory of Imelda can be made to the QEII Health Sciences Foundation (Geriatric Care).
