Obituary of Therese Ruth Laba

77, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, May 28, 2015. Born in Halifax on May 31, 1937, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary (Marriott) Merlin. She was an active fan of Bantam baseball and hockey. She was known to many as Nanny Ruth. She is survived by sons, Jamie Heighton (Belinda), Halifax and Jai Laba (Tracy), Kingswood; daughters, Kim Jollimore (Simon), Timberlea, Brendalee Seawright (Rick), Brampton, ON, Tania Heighton (Donnie) and JoAnne Manson, both of Halifax; 12 grandsons, Aaron Jollimore, Ryan Seawright, T.J. Shields, Tyler Lee, T.J. Heighton, Cal Heighton, Triston, Anton and Tanner Manson, Cole Laba; 2 granddaughters, Stephanie Seawright and Jaime Laba; great grandchildren, Keegan, Landon and Brooks; sisters, Francis MacDonald (Gordon), White’s Lake and Barbara Tingley (Jim), Ontario; special niece, Gina Lee. She was predeceased by brothers, Gerard, Raymond and Mike Merlin; maternal grandparents, Lillian and James Marriott; paternal grandparents, Alice and James Merlin. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Monday, June 1 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 2 at 11 AM in St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, with a reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
