Obituary of Effie May Fiander (Levy)
Spryfield, slipped away quietly in the early hours of April 14, 2015 at the age of 99, at the Halifax, Infirmary, QEII. Born in Indian Harbour on January 22, 1916 to the late Artimus Levy and Gertrude (Hurshman) Levy-Cleveland.
In her younger years, before marriage, she was a maid at the Halifax Ladies College. She was devoted to her Anglican faith and was a life time member of Emmanuel Anglican Church, Spryfield. She was active in most church activities right up until her health started to fail just recently. Effie is survived by daughters, Sharon Leipert (Klaus), Burnaby, BC.; Linda Middle Sackville; brother, Harold (Rose), Indian Harbour; sister Annie Smith, Portuguese Cove; special granddaughter Debbie; grandchildren Doug, Heather, Anne-Marie, Paul, Vickie, Angela, Kevan and Shannon; 15 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Frederick Fiander (1966), son, Leonard, daughter, Colleen, grandsons Christopher (1986) and Derek (2009) and granddaughter Erin (1997), sisters Dora Kane, Gladys Williams, Hilda O’Neill, brothers Ronald and Keith Cleveland, Raymond in infancy and son-in-law Weston.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Rd., where visitation will be held Friday April 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.. Funeral service to take place Saturday April 18 at 2 p.m. from Emmanuel Anglican Church Spryfield, Rev. Gordon Relf officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment to take place in Emmanuel Anglican Cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations can be made to the Emmanuel Anglican Church or the Canadian Cancer Society.
