Obituary of Herbert Seymour Rice
Age 87, of Halifax, passed away peacefully at home on April 2, 2015. Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland on January 9, 1928, he was a son of the late Louis and Sarah (Frampton) Rice.
Herbert was a true outdoorsman who loved camping and using his chainsaw. He retired as a Rigger from Dartmouth Marine Slips after 20 years of service on Januray 2, 2003. Above all else, Herbert enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lillian (Lethbridge) Rice; daughters Gladys Rice and Zena Rice (Clarence); sons Albert Rice (Darlene), Seymour Rice and Arthur Rice; sister Janie Weir, Bay Bulls, Newfoundland; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by special friends Joy and Andre Ledrew as well as Max and Gail Maher.
Herbert was pre deceased by his parents; one brother and six sisters. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., Halifax. There will be no service or visitation by request. Donations in Herbert’s name can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.
