Obituary of Ernest Hilburne Ossinger

83, Harrietsfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Gunning Cove, Shelburne Co., he was the son of the late Hilburne and Eva Ossinger. Ernie worked at the NS College of Art and Design from 1956 until his retirement in 1996. He loved playing cards, hunting and fishing with the boys, and enjoyed the country life at his family home in Shelburne. He was a member of the Spryfield Legion, Branch 152. Dad was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed by sons, Ernest Jr. (Irene), Calvin (Susan), Michael (Debbie), Alan (Judy); daughters, Janice (Kevin) Warner, Sharon (Steve) Vossen; grandchildren, Victoria, April, Melissa, Sherman, Wayne, Jason, Joseph, Scott and Craig; Great-grandchildren, Isabella, Tyler, Mitchell, Dakota, Taiton, Isabella and Jacklyn; brother, Murray and sister in-laws, Patricia Ossinger, Joyce Anderson, Marjorie Smith and Vivian Smith. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Regina; and brother, Kenneth. Arrangements are under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield, where visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 7 from 6-8 PM. A service of remembrance will be held on Thursday, January 8 at 12 noon from the funeral home chapel. A reception will follow the service at the Spryfield Legion, Branch 152. Family flowers only. Donations in Ernest’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stoke Foundation.
