Obituary of Joseph Vincent "Joe" Tramble

78, Halifax. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, grandfather, brother and friend Joseph "Joe" "Dody" Tramble who died peacefully in his sleep on December 22, 2014.  Dad was born on January 26, 1936 in Monastery Nova Scotia. In 1958, while working for Canadian Pacific Railway communications dad met Kitty, his soul mate and the love of his life. They were married on October 14, 1961. In 1966 Dad left the CPR to work for Maritime Tel and Tel. He retired from MT&T in 1993 as Manager of Inter/Intra services Coordination. Never one to sit still even in retirement Dad, refused to slow down.  He continued to act on his strong sense of community and service. He volunteered in the palliative care unit at Camp Hill Medical Centre and the Saint Vincent DePaul society, chaired committees instituted to assist refugees from Vietnam, Kenya and Bosnia, chaired the Resident Tenancy Board and was appointed to the Board of Referees for EI Canada. Not long after he moved to the Admiral Long Term Care facility he also served as President of the Resident Council. Constantly underlying dad’s strong sense of community was his deep commitment to his family, his faith and education…the three pillars. He served as a trustee for Herring Cove Elementary and Junior high Schools.  As an active and faithful parishioner of Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, he sang in the choir, served on the parish council and chaired the cemetery committee. With his family, he often divided his time between the old Tramble family home in Monastery, where a hot summer day often ended with a dip in the "warm as milk" waters of Barrios Beach, and in Herring Cove, the home where he and Kitty raised their four children. Dad loved trees. The yard at Herring Cove was filled with them. Each tree told a story; the birth of a child, a confirmation, first communion, graduation. All were planted by dad as an expression of the pride he felt in his children’s achievements. Dad will be lovingly missed by his children, Joseph (Carol) Brampton, ON; John (Shelly), Halifax; Roderic (Jennifer), London, ON; Mary Elizabeth (David), Whitecourt, AB and his brother, Father Eugene Tramble O.S.A. Marylake, ON. He will be tenderly missed by his grandchildren, Stephanie (Craig), Meghan, Megan, Joseph, Logan, Madison, Sean and Claudia. Dad was predeceased by Kitty, his beloved wife of nearly fifty years; his brothers, Thomas Daniel Tramble, James Leo "Rod" Tramble and his parents, Joseph Everett and Mary (MacDonnell) Tramble. Thank you to the staff of the Admiral Long Term Care Facility who provided Dad with great care and compassion for the last two years. Arrangements are under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 herring Cove Road, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A celebration of Dad’s life with a Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, January 7 at 10 AM in St Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 151 Hebridean Drive in Herring Cove, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will take place in St. Paul’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society of Canada.
