Obituary of Eric Donald Ashton
Halifax, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 20, 2014. He was born in Halifax on February 17, 1947, the son of late Donald Cameron and Iona Lyndall (DeWinter) Ashton.
Eric worked for 30 years for DND in inventory control point, taking care of all the inventory of the East coast's submarine fleet. For 25 years he belonged to the Scotia Branch Legion, and served as Vice President. He enjoyed watching car racing. playing darts, reading history and biographies, and singing Irish songs with friends. After his retirement, he surprised his family by his sudden interest and talent at gardening and renovating the house he and his wife bought. He enjoyed and cherished his wife and daughter and pets, and demonstrated this daily through actions and words. His Chihuahua, Meggee, was his constant companion and shadow. He was the best father and husband anyone could wish for, and will be remembered with love by Linda and Katrina as someone who listened and spoke from the heart. He is survived by his wife of forty six years, Linda, and his daughter Katrina, and her fiancé Stephen Black. He will be missed by his 'grand pets' Georgie, Mycroft and Stella. He also will be remembered by his honorary grandchild Oskar. He is also survived by his half sister, Janet Tupper, and many nieces and nephews. He had too many friends to list, but their company was a special gift to his family since his passing, especially dear neighbors Barbara McDonald and Annie Bayne. Eric was predeceased by his half sister, Sylvia Riley.
