Obituary of Marjorie Mable Salter
Age 87, Lower Sackville. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother. With her family by her side, mom passed away on January 30, 2014 at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late William James and Johanna Theresa (Smith) Salter.
Mom was a Davidson Street girl from the west end of Halifax. In her early years she worked for Prudential Insurance Company and later for Coomb's Drug Store in Halifax. She was a WAC during the Second World War. Her door was always open for family, friends and the neighbourhood kids. She loved to dance and taught many of us how to Jive. At the time of her passing, mom was a resident of Saint Vincent's Nursing Home.
Marjorie is survived by sons, Greg (Jean Hanson), Lower Sackville; Fred (Sandra MacKenzie), Spryfield; Thom Shields (Carolynn Mickie Hillison), Middle Sackville; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also leaving to mourn are sisters, Rene Salter, Halifax and Betty Barkhouse, Washington; brother, Dennis, Middle Sackville; sister-in-law, Marilyn Goucher; many nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the United States. She was predeceased by granddaughter, Kristy Lynn Salter; sisters, Connie in infancy, Lillian and Vivian; brothers, Bill and Ronnie; brother-in-law, Fred Barkhouse; sister-in-law, Doe Salter.
Many thanks to the doctors and nurses of the QEII emergency department as well as to the nursing staff of 4.1 for their care.; a special thank you to all of the staff of Saint Vincent's Nursing Home for their compassion, care and love given to our mother and her family during her brief stay.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Monday, February 3 from 11 am until 1 pm. A funeral service will follow at 1 pm from the funeral home chapel, Rev. Gordon Relf officiating, with reception to follow. Interment will take place in Fairview Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Saint Vincent's Nursing Home, 2080 Windsor Street, Halifax, NS B3K 5B2. Thanks for the memories Mom. You did good
