Obituary of Donald E. "Donnie" Strople
Strople, Donald Eric: 86, Herring Cove, NS, husband of June (Robinson), passed away peacefully at home on December 9, 2013. Born in Bayfield, Antigonish County, NS, Don was a son of the late Ralph and Evelyn (Bullock) Strople. Affectionately known to many as "Donnie", he was an active and lifelong member of Emmanuel Church, where he served on many committees throughout his life, including the cemetery committee. In 1966, he was initiated, passed and raised with the Acadia Lodge #14 of the Masonic Order, where he was the Worshipful Master, Grand Tyler, Director of Ceremony, and District Deputy Grand Master. He was then affiliated with the Duke of Kent Lodge #131, where he served as Warden. Donnie was a Noble with the Philae Shriners, Halifax, NS. He was also an active member of the Spryfield Lions Club, where he had held office of Past President. Throughout his life, Don had been employed with Farmers Dairy for 26 years, and then with Canada Post, from where he retired following 14 years of loyal employment. He was a devoted Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Donnie was dedicated to his church, organizations, community, but most of all to his family. He loved his family dearly, always playing an active role and supporting his children and grandchildren. Friends were many to Don, and he will be missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and is survived by his loving wife, June, his daughters, Pam Penny (Wayne), and Darlene Divirgilio (Nick), and his son, Paul (Lizeth). Known as "Papa" or "Opa", he will forever be remembered by treasured grandchildren, Richard Penny, Andrea Glazebrook, Ryan and Brittny Randall, Adriaan and Hugo Werson, and Bobbi Strople, as well as 8 cherished great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, William Strople, Rev. Beverly Strople, and Gerald Strople, and sister, Muriel Davis.
Cremation has taken place under the care of JA Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477.5601). A memorial service will be held in memory of Don on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 1PM in Emmanuel Anglican Church, Herring Cove Road, Spryfield, NS. A private family burial will take place at EmmanuelChurchCemetery. The family will join at a reception following the burial at the Emmanuel Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Emmanuel Church Cemetery Fund or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
