Obituary of Loran John Hackett
Age 75, Loran passed away peacefully in Maplestone Nursing Home, Halifax. Loran was born in Woods Island, Newfoundland and the eldest son of the late Aloysius and Florence Hackett. He enjoyed talking about his years as a commercial fisherman and miner with JC MacIssac Mining. Loran spent 15 years with his loving partner Alice Butler which extended his family and provided him with more grand "kiddies".
He is survived by sons, Vince (Wendy), Halifax; Paul (Betty) Winnipeg; daughter Sherri Lynn (Al), Middle Sackville; brother, Tom, Newfoundland. He loved his grandchildren dearly, Rhonda-Lee, Vanessa, Richard, Andrew, Samantha and Lucas; great grandchildren Tyler, Matthew and Madison; and he had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews in Newfoundland. Loran was predeceased by his brother, Aloysius; wife and mother of his children, Lorraine; and second wife, Caroline.
As per his wishes, Loran was cremated and a celebration of life will take place Monday November 18 at 2p.m. in J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601) 149 Herring Cove Rd., Major Kirk MacLeod officiating. Interment to take place at a later date in Newfoundland. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Red Cross or charity of one’s choice.
