Obituary of Edith Marie Jollimore (Slaunwhite)

Age 97, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2013. On a snowy March 8th ,1916, in her parents’ home in Terence Bay, Edith was born. She is the last surviving member of her family of the late Bernard and Gladys (Hooper) Slaunwhite. Ede was blessed with the beautiful blue eyes that twinkled with mischief and loved having innocent fun with her friends. She loved going to dances, parties, card games and especially her bingo. She was timid, gracious of speech, charming, hospitable and hated violence. She married Harvey Jollimore on Feb. 26, 1934 and raised a family of five on Yale St. She was completely devoted to her family while caring for her home and entertaining her friends. Ede took pride in the work she did at Dalhousie’s Sheriff Hall and retired in 1983, when she and Harvey moved to their son’s home in Terence Bay. She joined the Senior’s group in Terence Bay and relished their good company. She also enjoyed the visits of the parish ministers, thrived on the company of young people and was forever young at heart. She had moved to the nursing home at the age of 92. She is survived by daughter, Beverly Cookson and Patricia (David) Slaunwhite; sons, Joseph (Donna); Daniel (Carolyn); son-in-law Victor Perry; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; two nephews; three great nephews and one great great nephew. She was predeceased by husband Harvey; daughter, Lois Perry; granddaughter Lisa Whitehead; son-in-law Roy Cookson; sisters Kay Slaunwhite and Gladys and Josephine in infancy; brothers, George and Guy Slaunwhite and Bernard, Kenneth and Stewart in infancy. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601), 149 Herring Cove Rd., where visitation will be held Friday November 8, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday November 9, 11 a.m., from St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Terence Bay, Rev. Lisa Vaughn officiating. Interment to take place at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the St. Paul's Church Fund or the Terence Bay Heritage Site Fund. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Melville gardens for their kind care.   "There was a sweet and gentle soul with one amazing smile, She touched the hearts of all she knew and blessed us for a while. So full of life and joy and peace, so kind to everyone, Our hearts are torn clean from our chests to know that she is gone. We know she would not have us dwell on this dark time and place; Instead remember that sweet smile on her loving face. The world will forever be less beautiful." (Unknown)
