Obituary of Sophie Brackett

Brackett, Sophie Florence -90, Halifax. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their beautiful mother, Saint Sophie on Monday, October 21, 2013, with the loving family by her side. Sophie was born September 22, 1923; she was the daughter of the late Dan & Pricilla MacLeod. She came to Herring Cove when she was 18 and was swallowed up by Johnny Brackett, her loving husband. Our mom was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside, always putting others before herself. Mom overcame many obstacles in her long life but her faith in the Lord never wavered. In her younger years she was very active in her community, baking and cooking for just about every function. She was in the choir for many years lending her true alto Voice; she was a minister of the Eucharist for many years. She leaves to mourn, her daughter, Lynn; sons, Barry and Tim; grandson, Rob, Alan (Wendy); granddaughter, Dayna, great granddaughter, Hali; sister-in-law, Gwen Houlihan; uncle, Earl (Clara) Jennex; brothers-in-laws, Bobby and Patrick; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased her husband, Johnny; infant son, little John; brothers, Fred, Alfie, Jimmy and sisters, Hazel and Millie. We are all going to miss this wonderful woman who was in our lives for so long. Cremation has taken place under the care of J.Albert Walker Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 25 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Paul’s Church in Herring Cove, with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
