Obituary of Mary "Cookie" Briand

Briand, Mary Lorina "Cookie":  78, Halifax, NS, passed away following a brief and courageous battle with cancer on October 14, 2013 at the VG Site, QEII, Halifax.  Born in Halifax, she was daughter of the late Gordon and Catherine (Martin) Slaunwhite.  For 25 years, Cookie had proudly been employed in the cafeteria at the QueenElizabethHigh School.  Cookie was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.  She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Raymond, her children, Rick, Jimmy (Nancy), Michelle (Ted) and Cathy, as well as a brother, Manny (Faye), and a sister, Beatty (Gerry).  She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Evan, Micheal, Tara and Matthew, and a great-grandson, Tayon, her "angel darlin".  She was predeceased by sisters, Helen and Margaret, brother, Roger, and a daughter-in-law, Kim.   Cremation has taken place under the care of JA Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS (477.5601), where visitation will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 12-1 PM, followed by a memorial service in the chapel beginning at 1 PM.  A reception will follow.  Interment will take place in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.  Donations to the family would be greatly appreciated.  Words of comfort may be sent to the family by visiting www.walkerfh.com
