Obituary of Maria Josephine "Jo" Jackson
JACKSON, Maria Josephine "Jo" – 83, Halifax, passed away suddenly after a brief illness on Sunday, June 9, 2013 in the QEII Health Sciences Center. Born August 9, 1929 in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Reginald and Stella (Boudreau) Poirier.
Prior to marrying in 1964 Jo worked briefly for DND. She loved all animals, especially dogs and was rarely without a canine companion. She was witty and known for her comebacks, especially "Hello?" She loved a good crossword and cup of tea. She held strong opinions and often joked how she would like to write a book of editorials. Active and robust in her 80’s she was proud of her ability to live independently.
She is survived by her two children of whom she was very proud, Lesley Ann (Richard) Graham, Bedford; Christopher Charles, Halifax; sister, Louise (Jack Clancey), Dartmouth; brothers in-law, Clifford Jackson, Charlottetown, PE; Eric Edens, Bedford; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Charles Leslie Jackson (July 2005); brother and sister in-law, Paul and Jean Poirier; sister and brother in-law, Theresa and John Spearns; sisters, Helen Edens and Stella Poirier; son in-law, Paul Charlton.
Cremation has taken place under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. In keeping with Jo’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 13 at 10AM in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Fr. Pitcher as celebrant; reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will take place at a later date.
