Obituary of Deleta Ruth Thompson (Bell)
90, Beechville, passed away Saturday May 4, 2013 in the V.G. Site, QEII. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Roland and Blanche (Murray) Bell.
Up until the time of her hospitalization in March, she lived in the house that she and her husband built together in 1947. Ruth enjoyed music and singing, and had regular sing songs with her sisters. She was a deeply religious person of great faith, was a member of St. Luke’s Church in Lakeside, singing in the choir and serving on many boards and committees of the church and the Anglican Diocese. She was also an avid rock collector and had the most varied collection of rocks one could imagine. She was an excellent cook and always made sure that she had lots of homemade fudge to give to people she knew. She was a blueberry picker extraordinaire and picked in the same areas she did all her life in Lakeside. She loved to go picking mayflowers and always had bouquets all over the house. She loved to read and spent much time reading non-fiction books about such things as archaeological digs and ancient civilizations. She was a much loved mother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by daughter, Sherry Robinson (Michael Swann), Hatchet Lake; sons, William "Bill" Thompson (Carolan), Walton; Larry Thompson, Beechville; grandchildren, Sarah Robinson (David Pyke), Head Of Chezzetcook; Daniel (Danielle) Thompson; Kathryn (David) Bedford, Dartmouth; Rebecca Thompson, St. Peters; Desiree and Jacob Hayter-Thompson, Port Hawkesbury; great grandchildren, Jay Dugay, Timothy and Nathaniel Bedford; sisters Mary Marriott; Betty (Wylie) Minick and Muriel Fillmore-Shatford, all of Head Of St. Margaret’s Bay; Jean Salsman, Lakeside; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband Jarvis Thompson; brother, Murdock Bell and sister Dolly Morash.
Cremation has taken place under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601). A memorial service will be held on Thursday May 9 at 11a.m. from St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Timberlea, Rev. Mike Connors and Rev. Judi Lafford officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Timberlea, Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or you can help a family in need, which is in keeping with Mom’s generous spirit.
