Obituary of John James Hunter

HUNTER, John James – 80, Halifax, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, November 19, 2012 in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Orillia, ON he was a son of the late James and Helen (Skelly) Hunter. John proudly served for 25 years with the Royal Canadian Navy, finishing his career as a Chief Petty Officer 1st Class. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Irene (Chinn); children, Cindy (Gary), Halifax; Patrick (Michelle), Russell, ON; Tom (Michelle) and Jill (Jim), both of Halifax; Jodi (Mark), Athabasca, AB; Barb (Mike), Halifax; Shelley (Matthew), London, ON; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Fred (Patricia) and sister, Margaret (Bruce) Graham. He was predeceased by infant daughter, Debra Ann; and sister, Myrna. Special thanks are extended to the staff of the VG 7A Palliative Care, for their compassionate care and support. Arrangements are under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Donations in memory may be made to the QEII, VG Site 7A Palliative Care Unit.
