Obituary of Maria Sotiropoulos

  SOTIROPOULOS, Maria – 78, peacefully passed away Monday, October 22, 2012 in Halifax. Born in Messolonghi, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Stamatis and Christina Tsagaris. Maria immigrated to Canada in the 60’s to raise her family and start a new life. She will be best remembered for her support to her neighbourhood with her husband at the Melville Cove Snack Bar for over 30 years, the local Greek community, and most of all her beauty inside and out and devoted love to her family, friends and neighbours. She is survived by sons, Sam and Stamos; sister, Karti (Greece); grandchildren, Maria, Alexandra and George; many nieces, nephews and godchildren. She was predeceased by husband, George; daughter, Martha (Hadgigeorgiou); brother, John and sister, Sasa. Arrangements are under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Thursday, October 25 from 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 26 at 1:30 PM at St. Georges Greek Orthodox Church, with Fr. Panagiotis "Peter" Maropoulos officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will be held in St. John’s Cemetery.
