Obituary of Alice Irene Blom
Blom, Alice Irene- 98, Halifax, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, March 23, 2012, in the Melville Lodge Nursing Home. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Irene (Redmond) Purcell. Alice was the owner and ran the general store in Portuguese Cove for many years. She was active in the Liberal party, and other community organizations, Alice was a very kind person and will be greatly missed. She will be lovingly remembered and never forgotten by sons; Gerald (Betty), Robert (Colleen), Alan (Ann) and Paul (Karen) all of Halifax; 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, sister Venita, brother, Cyril, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband, Fred, sister, Thelma, brothers, Ross, Arthur and Vern. Special thanks to the staff of Melville Lodge for their compassionate care and support. Cremation has taken place under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Sunday, March 25 from 5-8 p.m. Service of remembrance will be held on Monday, March 26 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel, with a reception to follow. Burial to take place in St. David’s Cemetery, Portuguese Cove. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alice’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society Nova Scotia.
