Obituary of Raymond Joseph Michael Purcell
PURCELL, Raymond Joseph Michael - Portuguese Cove, beloved son of the late Everett Cecil and Mary Agnes (Purcell) Purcell, passed peacefully away on his 70th birthday, March 2, 2012 with his best friend by his side. Raymond was a fisherman all of his life and also did a lot of salvage work on several wrecks in Portuguese Cove. He was a great storyteller and historian; he was also a longtime member of the choir in St. Peters Church in Ketch Harbour. He spent his spare time painting pictures and building many wood crafts. Raymond leaves to mourn his aunt, Muriel Gray, Halifax; many special cousins and friends, especially, Donald Morris, Portuguese Cove. He was predeceased by his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Special thanks to all of the staff of 8.1 at the QEII for the kindness you shared, it was greatly appreciated. Arrangements are under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601), where visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, March 8 from St. Peters Roman Catholic Church, Ketch Harbour. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment to be held in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Portuguese Cove. Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to a charity of one’s choice.
