Obituary of Margaret Dorothy Cochrane
Margaret Dorothy Cochrane (Baillie) of Halifax passed away peacefully on August 4, 2011 at the age of 90. Born in Halifax to Angus and Dorothy (Blakeney) Baillie, she grew up in River John, Pictou County with three siblings: Jessie (Talbot), Mabel (Woodhouse) and Kenneth Baillie. She moved back to Halifax to go to the Maritime Business College and stayed to work, providing administrative support in a variety of companies. She met a handsome man on a bus on her way to Young Peopleâs at Bethany United Church. Marg and Roy, who was in the RCAF, married in 1943. She was always involved in the United Church as well as other community activities. Marg gave much of her time to the Girl Guides â she loved to see âherâ girls grow and develop into strong, capable young women, who appreciated nature and gave service to their communities. Later in her life she shared her love of the outdoors and family at the cottage in Skinners Cove, River John. She was an adventurous traveller and her most recent trip, at the age of 86, was to Qatar, Korea and Thailand. Through her lifelong work in the community, Marg touched the lives of many. Her legacy lives on through her children: Dave (Bev) Cochrane,Waverly; Nanci (Glenn) McQuinn, Halifax; Beth (Ric) Bleasdale, East River; and Diane (Wayne) Wooden, Halifax; her grandchildren Michelle (Drew), Steve (Melissa), Scott (Jill), Andrew (Lindsay), Leanne (Andrew), Kelly, Neil and Erin and her ten great-grandchildren. We would like to offer our most sincere appreciation to the staff at Melville Lodge and to Betty Sutherland, Margâs roommate and friend, for their love and caring.
