Obituary of Gerald "Gerry" Russell
Russell, Gerald "Gerry" Stewart: 66, Halifax, passed away unexpectedly on March 7, 2011 at the New Halifax Infirmary, with his loving wife, Deborah, by his side. Born in Halifax and raised in New Ross, NS, he was the eldest son of the late Stewart and Mary (Keddy) Russell.
Gerry was employed with the Halifax School Board for 29 years and retired in 1998. He took special enjoyment working with summer students, and always ended the summer with the "grasshopper" ball. In his retirement years he enjoyed the friends fun and festivities at South Mountain Park
He will forever be remembered by those who knew him as a kind, caring and devoted man.
Gerry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Deborah (Hughes), his sisters, Lynn McGill, Newcombeville; Wendy Russell, Dartmouth; Shirley Russell and Heather MacNeil (Raymond), both of Halifax, his brother, Gary (Edith) Russell, New Ross, maternal aunt, Mryna Maye, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Perry, and sister, Elizabeth Glavin.
Cremation has taken place under the care of JA Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS, where visitation will be held on March 11, 2011 from 5-8 PM. A funeral service will not be held, and the interment will take place at a later date in New Ross, NS. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in memory of Gerry to a charity of your choice.
