Obituary of Blair Barry

BARRY, Blair - Halifax, formerly of Sydney Mines, passed away after a long, hard fought battle on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the age of 65, surrounded by his loving family. Blair is survived by his wife of 38 years, Betty (Buckley) Barry. Blair will be missed by his children, George, Tanya (Derrick) and Blair Jr. (Angie). He was grampy to 9 grandchildren, Jason, Kevin, Jessica, Sean, Zackary, Gracie, Matthew, Braden and baby Dakota. He will also be missed by his daughter in-law, Cathy; cousin, Richard (Charlene) Nicholson; brothers and sisters in-law, Tim, Brett, Nelson, Deanna, Margaret and Gladys. Blair was predeceased by his parents, Angus and Donnie (Nicholson); sister, Geraldine, brothers in-law, Jack, Bill and Bub; cousin, Brian. Blair retired after many years at the Herald. In his younger years Blair enjoyed swimming, fishing, boating and camping. He was always the first one on the dance floor and the last one to leave. His later years saw Blair watching his grandkids and sitting in his chair listening to music, particularly Elvis. He will be deeply missed. Family and friends are invited to share their memories of Blair on Tuesday, January 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601). A service of remembrance will be held from the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, January 12 at 11 AM, with Rev. Russell Saulnier officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Blair’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
