Obituary of James "Jim" W. Warren
WARREN, James William … 84, Halifax, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at the QEII. Born in Francois, NF, he was the son of the late Thomas and Charlotte (Dollimont) Warren.
At the age of 19, Jim married Mary Pink with whom he fathered five children. He started fishing at an early age working mostly off the coast of Newfoundland and the Grand Banks. In the early 1950’s he moved with his family to Halifax. While working at the Halifax fish plant he attended nautical school and soon earned his ticket to become a captain. He then worked for Marine Industries limited as a captain of a tugboat for several years. In 1969 he moved to Vancouver where he worked in the ferry industry until his retirement in 1991. Jim was a master story teller with an abundance of wit and charm and he also possessed a heart of gold.
He is survived by his first wife, Mary Warren (Pink); sons, James (Carla), Milford; Eric (Birgit), Vancouver; Leo (Paula), Halifax; daughter, Maud Knox (Ray), Calgary; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Alan (Hazel) and his second wife, Phyllis.
Cremation has taken place under the care of J. A. Walker Funeral home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601). In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
