Obituary of Joseph "Joe" Gerrior

GERRIOR, Joseph “Joe” Simon … Williamswood, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 13, 2010 in the QEII Health Sciences Center. Joe was born in Charlos Cove, Guysborough County on October 20, 1935 to the late Johanna (Gerrior) Delaney and his step-father, Samuel Delaney. Joe retired in 1999 from a long work history beginning at Blakeney’s, Halifax. He worked as a proprietor of Joe’s Grocery on Brunswick Street and for many years as a Dry Waller with a variety of Drywall companies throughout the Halifax Municipality. Joe had enormous talents and was naturally skilled in many areas. He had a big heart and gave generously of his time in the spirit of helping others. Joe loved nature and the simple things in life. Next to his family, he was happiest when fishing, berry picking, hunting and gardening with friends and family. He loved people and was typically the life of the party, often sharing his natural quick wit, humor and great charm. Joe and Lena shared their life in every way together. They spent a long life traveling, camping, dancing, entertaining friends and enjoying their family. Joe loved life in every way and will be dearly missed by all his friends and family. He will lovingly be remembered and never forgotten by his wife of 52 years, Lena, daughter of Selena and Frank Berthier (L’Ardoise). They were devoted to each other and together they had two children, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is survived by both children and will be dearly missed by his son, Bryan Gerrior, Williamswood; daughter, Brenda Gerrior, Halifax. He is deeply loved by his grandchildren, Steven Gerrior, Williamswood; William (Dianna) Gerrior, Edmonton and his great-grandchild Donald Joseph “DJ”, Edmonton. He is also survived by his brother, Dennis (Noreen) Delaney, Hammonds Plains. Arrangements are under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. In keeping with Joe’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 18 at 1 PM in St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church, 14 St. Michaels Avenue (off of the Herring Cove Road), with a reception to follow in the church hall. Burial will take place at a later date in L’Ardoise, Cape Breton at Holy Guardian Angels Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, people are encouraged to make donations in Joe’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of one’s choice.
