Obituary of Alphonso Peters

Peters, Alphonso Charles: 84, Halifax, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the VG Site, QEII, Halifax surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Lower L’Ardoise, Cape Breton, NS, he was a son of the late Daniel and Emma (Marchant) Peters. Alphonso was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a Merchant Marine, later working with Halifax Metal Workers, and then Fairview Industries where he had retired. He was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church. He will be remembered for his love of fishing, the outdoors and the ocean. He always enjoyed a good game of crib, darts, dancing and time spent with his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lorraine (Henneberry), son, Darren (Marilyn), Spryfield, and daughter, Denise Wilson (Robert), Beaverbank, his grandchildren, Randy (Katie), Christopher, Vincent, Marcia, and Brittany, two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kiera, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, Albert, Joseph, Daniel, and Morris, and sisters, Margaret, Emiline, Katie, Martha, Beatrice and Serina as well as many siblings who passed away in childhood and infancy. Cremation has taken place under the care of JA Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., Herring Cove Road, Halifax, NS. No visitation by request. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Herring Cove Road, followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville, NS. Family flowers only please, donations in memory of Alphonso can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Michael’s Church.
