Obituary of James K. "Jim" Hayden

HAYDEN, James Kenneth "Jim" - 78, Spryfield. We are sad to announce the peaceful passing of Jim, at home on Friday, August 27, 2010. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Carman and Ethel (Shepherd) Hayden. Jim had worked for J.R. Pineo's as a meat cutter for 24 years and then had worked for the Halifax School Board. He was a husband, father, and grandfather, who is survived by wife, Shirley (Slaunwhite), sons, Jamie (Kathy Sullivan); Shane (Dolly Anwar); and Steven. He dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Naomi Shanta, and Joshua Anwar Hayden, who affectionately knew him as "Grumpy". He is also survived by brothers, Stanley (Betty), Wade (Glenda), Eric (Joan); sister, Isobel Meehan (Ray); and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, L. Shawn in infancy; brother, David; wife, Mae; nephew Randy; niece, Wanda. Arrangements are under the direction of J. A. Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. 149 Herring Cove Road, Spryfield (477-5601). In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel, with a reception to follow. Interment to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Emmanuel Anglican Church, 322 Herring Cove Road (477-1783). A very special thank you to all the Paramedics, Firemen and Policemen, especially Constables Eddy El-Diri and Todd Streatch, who stayed with us through it all. A big thanks to all who phoned, visited and brought donations of food, your kindness will not be forgotten
